Greyhound Rescue of Vermont is holding an emergency blanket drive to supply bedding for 100 greyhound dogs about to retire from racetracks in New Hampshire. Blankets will be used to comfort the dogs taken from the track in crates and transported to kennels, where it is often cold. Bedding softens the interior of the crates for any dog but it is essential for the greyhound whose trim physique lacks padding.

"Fall is a normal time of year when dogs become available for adoption because racetracks close for the season," said Sandra Farrell, adoption coordinator and president of Greyhound Rescue of Vermont.

Wow. these stories are wonderful. I don't have a dog right now...my last was a rehome for a senior girl who stole my heart then died suddenly. I can't do it again just yet.
